A manager’s role is to handle the affairs of the company and make sure his or her staff have all the tools necessary to do their jobs. A manager should never use his position to hurt his employee especially when there is a case against him with the human resource department. A supervisor should be swift to defend his staff even if senior management passes a negative remark to HR. HR sometimes adopts the posture of a judge who says the officer’s word is always right and the civilian’s argument has to be verified. In this case, the officer is senior management and the civilian is the staff. Senior management doesn’t have to prove their argument because their title gives them credibility. A title should not signal trust, but that is the reality. As a result of that, managers should always dwell in truth. The supervisor’s honest account should work as the employee’s verification tool. If you are a manager, how would you respond if your staff asked, can we count on you?
