Depending on where you are you might not feel significant. You may have been overlooked for the promotion, or you might not have gotten the training or raise you desire. A title or position doesn’t necessarily bring real significance. The value you bring is significant. I worked with a custodial engineer who had the mind of a carpenter trapped inside, but the manager wouldn’t take his word or allow him to utilize his skill even though there was a need for it. As a result, he felt insignificant even though those of us who knew his potential vouched for him. The manager’s words were, “I know you’re a good custodial engineer but I have never seen your carpentry work on display.” Not because you haven’t seen something doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. No wonder Paul (in 1 Cor. 2:9) quoted one of the prophets when he said: “Eye has not seen…” You may not see the wind blowing, but you feel it. You might not be able to see gravity, but you know what it is when an Apple falls on your head. You might not be able to solve a problem you’re experiencing, but that doesn’t mean the solution doesn’t exist. Any supervisor who doesn’t help you improve doesn’t have your best interest in mind. Better yet don’t rely on anyone to feel important.
